So San Francisco

We went to San Francisco for some business and some fun.

Here's a view of Alcatraz from our room at the Hotel Drisco.

Love the tradition of seasonal doorway decor.

This detail is from the Medical Building we visit

and here, the marvelous futuristic angles of the international terminal at SFO.

The De Young at sunset

From this view, the building looks almost like a ship sailing through the trees.

There are bronzes from Big Alma Spreckles collection in the sculpture garden

and I loved the artful lighting.

Of course, our real reason to be in Golden Gate Park was the marvelous Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival. There were a ton of folks, and lots of great music.

Studio City Sights

Recently, we went to the San Fernando Valley for the memorial for Josh's dad.

We stayed at the iconic Sportsmen's Lodge

where this lamp sort of sums up the ambiance.

We breakfasted at the classic Googie style Twain's, visited Alex's house, and then moved on to the Group Repertory Theater for the gathering.

Runnoff from the power plant

Every year, when the river gets low, water that normally goes to the turbines at the hydroelectric plant gets sent down to the fish hatchery instead. The water is released from a spillway in a huge waterfall and and tumbles down the side of the mountain ending up at the hatchery. It's a great hike too.

Democratic Headquarters in Kernville

For the first time in memory, there is one. Kernville being a semi-Dem pocket of the most Republican county in Ca.

It was only open for a week when it got sniped.

But we undid the damage and took the offending lawn signs to the republican hq on the other side of the bridge.

Wild thing!

Fritzi and her pal Rufus mix it up.

Millpond Music Festival

Last weekend, we hitched up the Bambi and headed to Bishop for three days of camping, jamming and fun:

Click a pic for the full screen slide show with captions. (the new "improved" version of picasa web albums doesn't let me post it the way I used to)

Water dog!

Deer in the daylight

Hunting season opens this weekend. I'll be wearing my bright colors in the woods.

Our duck didn't win.

Carson on Rhythm

Back in Kernville, Friday night at the Brewery, Josh on uke, and Carson with the shaker.

Rat Cat Dog

There's a fellow who wanders along State Street in Santa Barbara with his animals: a cat that rides on the back of a dog, and a rat that rides on the back of the cat. It's quite a sight...

(blurry photos courtesy the iPhone)

Santa Barbara

All-in-all, we had a pretty good time in Santa Barbara. Aileen's visit to the Sansom clinic went well. But my camera batteries died so this little slice of the historic El Paseo is all I have to offer.

Dogs at the Diner

We went to Cheryl's for breakfast one morning, and everyone on the patio had a dog.

The Gordons ca. 1967

Dad's memorial celebration will be held on the 28th of September in LA at the Lonnie Chapman Group Repertory Theater; let us know if you want to come. Meanwhile, here's a picture of the entire family ca. 1967. That's Josh on the left, Mom, Alex in Mom's lap, Peter, and Dad with the sword. All the young boys with all the hair!
