Slip Sliding!

Our friend Holly Ocampo has started a children's party business, she bought a couple of of those inflatable jumpers, and a water slide. So Sunday, she tested the slide out with probably the most rambunctious, um, kids around.

Up the creek

A heron posed amid the cottonwood fluff on the water
and then he flew.

My favorite photo

so far this trip.

It's the view coming into Kernville from the crest at Rocky Point. Click for giant version.

The custom round these parts is that the 4th of July Fireworks are held on Saturday, no matter what the actual day of the holiday.
We went to a party at Dutch Flat, high above Lake Isabella.
It was the perfect spot to watch the fireworks over the lake. Thousands lined the shore of Isabella, but we had a birds eye view.

Fourth of July

The river is full of folks and the sky is full of smoke. The Piute fire has grown to 20-thousand acres. That smoke plume can be seen all the way to Nevada.

At the Pub

Josh sits in (the corner).
The band is called Out of the Blue.
They play every Friday night.
The Kern River Brewing Company occupies the building that was once the Just For Fun Club. From Cherry Cokes and a jukebox in the '70's, to beer and bluegrass in the 'aughts. Evolution!
