Millions of lights

Not only that, but they flash in time to music broadcast on a low power FM station. Cars line up to watch and listen. I'll post a video of it if I can figure out how...

Still life at home

With a shout-out to Terry Twombly

Cowboy Christmas

Boots were found

and furniture tested.

There thousands of vendors of everything imaginable that had any western theme or use, and there were three convention halls full.

The Showgirl Must Go On

Bette Midler's wonderful production, "The Showgirl Must Go On", is in itself worthy of a trip to Las Vegas. We saw it on Friday evening with Terry and Mitzie, and we were all enthralled.

Phone Blogging

My first attempt at mobile blogging using the iPhone. I took this shot last week in K'ville and sent it via email to blogger, and by jove, it worked!

Peggy Sue's Birthday hike

On election day, and coincidentally Peggy Sue's actual birthday, a bunch of gals, dogs and Grant hiked up the Four Mile Trail at the Johnsondale Bridge.

Wild Cucumber

I just love this stuff in any season.

Riverkern view

It rained nearly 3/4 of an inch today. It was glorious, and fast and hard. April and I walked up the Whiskey Flat Trail and got drenched.

Here's a slideshow of the basin over the last two days

Fall Color

We took a drive about 40 miles north to Quaking Aspen, near Ponderosa. The trees were in all their golden glory, the leaves dropping quickly as the afternoon breeze came through. Here's a slide show

So San Francisco

We went to San Francisco for some business and some fun.

Here's a view of Alcatraz from our room at the Hotel Drisco.

Love the tradition of seasonal doorway decor.

This detail is from the Medical Building we visit

and here, the marvelous futuristic angles of the international terminal at SFO.

The De Young at sunset

From this view, the building looks almost like a ship sailing through the trees.

There are bronzes from Big Alma Spreckles collection in the sculpture garden

and I loved the artful lighting.

Of course, our real reason to be in Golden Gate Park was the marvelous Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival. There were a ton of folks, and lots of great music.

Studio City Sights

Recently, we went to the San Fernando Valley for the memorial for Josh's dad.

We stayed at the iconic Sportsmen's Lodge

where this lamp sort of sums up the ambiance.

We breakfasted at the classic Googie style Twain's, visited Alex's house, and then moved on to the Group Repertory Theater for the gathering.

Runnoff from the power plant

Every year, when the river gets low, water that normally goes to the turbines at the hydroelectric plant gets sent down to the fish hatchery instead. The water is released from a spillway in a huge waterfall and and tumbles down the side of the mountain ending up at the hatchery. It's a great hike too.

Democratic Headquarters in Kernville

For the first time in memory, there is one. Kernville being a semi-Dem pocket of the most Republican county in Ca.

It was only open for a week when it got sniped.

But we undid the damage and took the offending lawn signs to the republican hq on the other side of the bridge.

Wild thing!

Fritzi and her pal Rufus mix it up.
