Peggy Sue's Birthday hike
On election day, and coincidentally Peggy Sue's actual birthday, a bunch of gals, dogs and Grant hiked up the Four Mile Trail at the Johnsondale Bridge.

Riverkern view
It rained nearly 3/4 of an inch today. It was glorious, and fast and hard. April and I walked up the Whiskey Flat Trail and got drenched.
Here's a slideshow of the basin over the last two days

Fall Color
We took a drive about 40 miles north to Quaking Aspen, near Ponderosa. The trees were in all their golden glory, the leaves dropping quickly as the afternoon breeze came through. Here's a slide show

So San Francisco
The De Young at sunset
From this view, the building looks almost like a ship sailing through the trees.
There are bronzes from Big Alma Spreckles collection in the sculpture garden
and I loved the artful lighting.
Of course, our real reason to be in Golden Gate Park was the marvelous Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival. There were a ton of folks, and lots of great music.

Studio City Sights
Recently, we went to the San Fernando Valley for the memorial for Josh's dad.
We stayed at the iconic Sportsmen's Lodge
where this lamp sort of sums up the ambiance.
We breakfasted at the classic Googie style Twain's, visited Alex's house, and then moved on to the Group Repertory Theater for the gathering.

Runnoff from the power plant
Every year, when the river gets low, water that normally goes to the turbines at the hydroelectric plant gets sent down to the fish hatchery instead. The water is released from a spillway in a huge waterfall and and tumbles down the side of the mountain ending up at the hatchery. It's a great hike too.
