A Busy Day on the Kern River

It was an fascinating day in Kernville. We awoke to discover the river had gone up some 2500 feet from the previous day. Impressive, to say the least. We spent some time admiring the volume of water, then went to the Farmers Market. On the way back we stopped at Riverside Park to watch all the activity.

A while after we got home, a sheriff's car with flashing lights came zipping down the driveway. We met him outside the house, and he told us he needed to get to the river. Out we went with him, to witness the rescue of a raft full of first-timers who'd gotten a little too intimate with some trees that normally are on dry land.

I wanted to thank those responsible for this web cam on the Kern and for their efforts in keeping it going. I am in Huntington Beach, Ca, am 52 years old, and have been coming to Kernville since I could walk. Your webcam provides me with just a slice of heaven everytime I take a look at the river flowing and actually HEAR it running...what bliss!! THANK YOU THANK YOU. You probably dont realize the joy you provide for some of us wishing we were up there! My family, including wife, and two daughters 18 and 21 years of age, think I am a little strange to be enjoying the river views, but, what can I say. Thanks again. Jeff

Thank you so much, Jeff! I'm glad to know someone is listening to the sounds. I think we put up the webcams specifically for people like you. When we're out of town, we watch and listen and every day.

Hi - I too appreciate the wonderful view of the Kern. I live in the UK but visit every year. When I lived in the USA we used to camp in the area regularly. It makes me realise what a wonderful country the US is. I hope to visit for many more years (and catch many more trout!).
